Everything You Need to Know About IRS Notice 1444 and Your Stimulus Payment

Did you get IRS Notice 1444 in the mail after receiving your coronavirus stimulus check? Do you need to get your stimulus check? Here’s what you should know.

What is Notice 1444, Notice 1444-B, or Notice 1444-C?

  • Notice 1444 is a special Internal Revenue Service notice to inform you that the IRS issued your coronavirus stimulus payment. If it says Notice 1444 (EN-SP), that means the notice they sent to you is in English and Spanish.
  • Notice 1444-B is the notice for the second payment from December 2020 or January 2021. The only difference is that the B means it’s for the second payment. Without the B is for the first payment.
  • Notice 1444-C is the notice for the third payment which started going out in March 2021. The C just means that it’s the third payment.

Each notice is supposed to arrive within 15 days of your payment. With delays at the IRS, USPS, and other federal government agencies due to COVID-19, delivery times have not been consistent.

Do you need Notice 1444 or 1444-B to file your 2020 tax return?

The purpose of Notice 1444 is to help you to accurately file your 2020 federal tax return. When tax software or an accountant asks for your Notice 1444 to report any payment, it’s to check whether you received the relief payments and how much you got. If you don’t have your Notice 1444 but do know how much you received, your tax return won’t be inaccurate if you enter the amount that you received.

Keep all information that you do have such as the cover letter for your check or debit card. If you received a direct deposit, save that bank statement.

The IRS knows how much you received since they processed the payments. You shouldn’t have to worry about them challenging the amount you entered if you entered it correctly. However, there is a chance that information may not match up in their system. For example, if you never received a payment they sent or if you had changes in your eligible dependents. Save your records in case of an audit just like you would save any other tax records.

From the comments, it looks some like some tax preparers are refusing to file your return without the notice. I have not seen any guidance specifically requiring it, and it appears that they are being overly cautions regarding general IRS due diligence requirements. This is a conversation you need to have with your tax preparer.

Do you need Notice 1444-C to file your 2021 tax return?

See above. Just like 1444 and 1444-B, you don’t really need it but your accountant might ask for it. You will need to keep track of how much you received.

How else can I verify the amount I already received?

If you lost or didn’t get your notice, didn’t save the letter that came from your check, or don’t have the bank statement with your stimulus payment, you can still find your payment amount.

  1. Go to the IRS website
  2. Click View Your Account
  3. Click Tax Record (Transcript)
  4. Follow the steps to request your 2020 tax transcript which will have your stimulus payment

Note that transcripts can take several weeks to update. However, by this point, your first and second payments should be showing. The third payment will not appear on 2020 and may later appear on 2021 once the IRS processes are finalized.

Why does the IRS send Notice 1444?

The purpose of Notice 1444 is to confirm you received your stimulus payment information in case it went to the wrong bank account or got lost in the mail. It also explains the amount you received and how that’s calculated so you can check for errors.

Where does the IRS send Notice 1444?

The IRS mails Notice 1444 to the recipient’s last known address within 15 days of payment. This is almost always the address you used on the last income tax return you filed.

If you move, the IRS does have a form to submit your address change. However, most people don’t even know this exists. The IRS just gets their new address when they file their first tax return from their new home.

Do you need to respond to Notice 1444?

If you received your coronavirus stimulus payment in the correct amount, there is no need to respond. If you received the wrong amount or didn’t receive your payment, follow the instructions in the notice. Try to avoid calling the phone number unless necessary to avoid having to wait for hours on hold.

What if I didn’t get my 1444 Notice or need a replacement?

The notice is mainly a confirmation of your relief payment. If you received the correct amount, you probably don’t need the notice. However, if you do need the notice for your records, you can call the IRS.

How much are the COVID-19 stimulus checks?

  • The first payment was for $1,200 per adult and $500 for dependents up to age 16.
  • The second stimulus check was $600 per person. That includes $600 per dependent under 17.
  • The third payment is for $1,400 per person including dependents.

You get less if you made too much.

The above numbers assume you made less than $75,000 as an individual or $150,000 as a married couple.

How do the first and second payment reduce based on your income?

If you made more than those amounts, your maximum check gets reduced by $5 for every $100 you were over. You hit a $0 payment at an income of $87,000 for individuals and $174,000 for joint filers.

How does the third payment reduce based on your income?

For the third payment, you still get the full amount if you made up to $75,000 as an individual or $150,000 as a joint filer. However, the payment phases out more quickly. If you made at least $80,000 or $160,000, you get zero.

Your COVID-19 relief payment is estimated based on your last tax return.

  • The size of your first check depended on your 2018 or 2019 tax return. This depended on whether you had filed for 2019 or the IRS had processed it by the time checks were issued.
  • The second payments appear to have been based only on 2019 tax returns. If you only filed for 2018 or your 2019 tax return wasn’t processed yet, you may need to claim the second payment on your 2020 tax return.

The reason for going back to 2018 is that many people hadn’t filed their 2019 taxes at the time of the first payment.

Is someone who died during 2020 eligible for the payment?

From the IRS instructions for Line 30 of Form 1040:

Generally, you are eligible to claim the recovery rebate credit if in 2020 you were a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien, weren’t a dependent of another taxpayer, and have a valid social security number. This includes someone who died in 2020, if you are preparing a return for that person. Use the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet to figure the credit, if any, you can claim.

What if your income changed?

If your 2020 income goes down, you may be eligible for more money when you file your 2020 tax return. You may be eligible if you had a life change that meant you are eligible based on your 2020 tax return but weren’t eligible based on 2019 or 2018.

If your 2020 income went up, you won’t have to return your economic impact payment.

The same thing will apply for the 2021 payment and your 2021 tax return.

How do you get the additional funds if you got less than the full stimulus amount for the first and second payment?

Eligible filers can claim an additional credit on your 2020 tax return to make up the difference. This is called the Recovery Rebate Credit.

The Recovery Rebate Credit is a refundable credit. If you owe $0 in taxes and get a $600 credit, you will get a $600 refund. If you owe taxes, the taxes get subtracted. If you’re already getting a refund, your refund will be bigger.

How do you get the additional funds if you got less than the full stimulus amount for the third payment?

The third payment is not part of the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit. The IRS has not released details for how to claim the third payment if you received less than you were entitled to. It is likely that it could be a credit you file for on your 2021 tax return due in April of 2022.

What if you didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019?

  • If you should have filed a tax return and didn’t, you will need to file a 2020 tax return. You will also want to catch up on your missed tax returns to avoid other penalties for not filing.
  • If you don’t need to file a tax return and receive Social Security and Railroad retirement benefits, the IRS will use those records. However, the IRS won’t know if you have dependents and are eligible for the $500 per dependent. So if you believe you’re owed more money, you can file a 2020 tax return.
  • If you have a problem and can’t file either 2018 or 2019 without in-person assistance, you will not be able to claim your check immediately but can get it through the end of 2020 after you file.
  • If you just had a baby in 2020 (who wasn’t on your last tax return), you may be eligible to claim the dependent payment for your baby. Their birthday doesn’t matter because it’s based on the tax year. A baby born on December 31, 2020 could be eligible for both payments.

If you otherwise wouldn’t have needed to file a 2020 tax return, this doesn’t mean that you are going to owe other taxes. Normally, you wouldn’t need to file because you wouldn’t owe the government money and the government wouldn’t owe you money. Since the government owes you money in the form of a tax credit, you need to file a tax return to claim it.

How do you get your stimulus payment?

The IRS is responsible for issuing payments.

  • If you got a refund via direct deposit, the IRS should issue your refund to the same bank account.
  • If you paid your taxes using bank payment on the IRS website, the IRS should issue your refund to the same bank account.
  • If you paid by check, debit card, credit card, or some other third-party service, the IRS should issue a check to the address on your tax return.
  • Most other payments will go by check. Some payments have gone out on a prepaid debit card instead.
  • If you closed your bank account, there is no way to update your bank account information. The IRS should mail you a check after your payment gets returned for your bank account being closed.
  • If you moved, the IRS will continue to use the address on your last tax return unless you filed an IRS change of address Form 8822.

What if I didn’t get my second payment until 2021?

The second payment is still a 2020 tax credit regardless of whether you received it before the end of 2020 or in 2021.

Is the stimulus payment income?

The stimulus payment is not income. It is a federal tax credit.

Can the IRS hold stimulus payments to cover tax debts?

Unlike other tax refunds, the IRS will not apply your coronavirus relief payment to a tax debt from a prior year. You should receive the full amount.

What tax software do you need to file Notice 1444?

Most tax software should ask you about whether you received your stimulus payment. It should also check your eligibility to get an additional tax credit if you didn’t receive your check. Common options include Credit KarmaH&R BlockLiberty TaxTaxAct, and TaxSlayer.

    George,

  2. My Notice 1444 and the IRS “Track my Payment” said my 3rd payment was sent March 17th. My bank isn’t holding it. I lost my 1444 and when I try to create an account on he IRS website, I can’t do it because I’ve never had a credit card or any loans, so they can’t verify my identity.

  3. My wife received a $600 check. My wife and I received bank deposits of $1,400 each. What do I do if we may not be eligible because of the amount of our income?

  4. My sister is incarceratd and received the first two stimulus payments but not the third. Are they still being sent out? Thank you

I Would like To Know The Same Question, As Neither Me Or My Wife have Received Not a Single Stimulus Check Or Any of The Notice 1444 Either & She Doesn’t Work & Hasn’t since 12/2004 To Where She’s Not Had Income To File Taxes Nor Does She have Any Type of Discrepancies Like Child Support Or Debts to Go Against Her (Like I May Have as far as Child Support but Not Sure about That Either) for Her to of Not gotten a Single Check since They Started, Other than She’s Had a Change of Address but That was in 2015 but She’s had Updated Permanent Address Change with The USPS Since & Has Updated Addresses Again Back in The Beginning/Middle of Last Year Just To Confirm Again for Sure, But Still Never Got Nothing Since The Beginning Yet Still till Today, Neither of Us Have!!! Would like Answers & Possible Leadway As To Steps To Take On Finding This Info & Getting Whats Owed to Me & Her!!??!! TYVM!!

      • It sounds like the IRS doesn’t know your current income or address. The IRS process for many people in that situation is to file a tax return, even if you normally wouldn’t have to, so they get your correct info and where to send the money. However, there may be further complications with your situation, so use the IRS tools to research it further and/or talk to a local tax pro.

I received a 1444-B Notice based on my tax information from 2019. I said I would receive 600.00
direct deposited 7days after I received the letter and I still haven’t received it. The date the notice was issued was March 12, 2021. When I go online it says my information is incorrect. When I filed my taxes in 2019 I was living in a different location as I am now…I’ve tried the two different zip codes and nothing helps.

I received a letter a week ago 1444-b. Said an amount of $2400 has been issued to me being sent in for of debit card later this week. I was wondering why it says 2400 if I am married with 2 kids under the age of 15. My wife and i together make under the limits for. Shouldn’t the amount be 5600? That’s what the calculator says.. Please let me know. Thank you.

    • If you received less than you were entitled to, you can reconcile it on your tax return to receive the rest.

  8. Am a non filer. Am on ssi disability and I got my stimulus check 1st n 2nd. And I have 2 kid dependence and they didn’t get there stimulus at all. And I didn’t receive no 1444 notice at all. What can I do as a non filer to get my kids check? Thank u

  9. My second stimulus payment posted in January and I believe that makes in 2021 income and not 2020.

  10. I am trying to confirm the amount of my first stimulus check since I cannot find my original letter and the amount for my taxes. How do I get that?

  11. Haven’t receive stimulus 2 and 3, never received 1444 1444b, also filed out tax form. On get my payment it says unavailable. What can I di?

    • If you filed for the second payment on your tax return, use the IRS Where’s My Refund tool. The third payment doesn’t officially go out until 3/17 although some banks advanced the money to their customers already. Checks will take even longer.

Is there a form I can fill out for a tracer. We never received our second
Stimulus check but received a 1444-B notice. I’ve called the IRS numerous
times but they are too busy to take my call.

My daughter has not received her checks. She has not filed since 2012 because she doesn’t make enough. Everytime she tries the wheres my payment she gets the can not find your id. how does she get her money

    • From the IRS FAQ

You can use Get My Payment to check your payment status if the IRS has enough information to verify your identity. It may not be possible to verify your identity if:

You didn’t file a tax return
You didn’t use the IRS’s Non-Filers tool by November 21, 2020 to register for a payment
You receive federal benefits and we don’t have enough information for you to access the application
All payments authorized for the first and second Economic Impact Payments have been sent. If no information is available for you and you didn’t receive any payments or the full payment amounts you’re eligible for, then you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit – and must file a 2020 tax return even if you are not required to file.

I received my 2nd stimulus check (visa debit card) in Jan 2021. I have not received a 1444 B. Even tho I received it in year 2021 can I just show it received and enter it on the recovery work sheet. If I don’t enter it it try’s to send me and equal amount as a refund. Also do I need a copy of the 1444B to send with my 2020 taxes?
    Thanks

  15. I received the first and second stimulus checks, however we didn’t receive the form 1444. My tax person has requested I get those forms before he can continue. Therefore I am requesting they be sent to me with the necessary information. Thank you in advance John [Removed]

  16. I received my both stimulus payment in April 2020,and in January, my wife was deceased 4-09-2020, she received a check for the stimulus payment, I sent it back to the IRS! I’ve figured my 2020 taxes and it says I get my deceased wife’s both stimulus! H & R BLOCK software. What to do?

  17. Its 2/7 and I never received my stimulus payment 2. Also, no 1444-B. My wife & I are eligible for $1,200. If I file my Income tax Return now with the Rebate, what happens in the next round if I again do not get it? Should I delay my Income Tax Return indefinately? My mail is now forwarded to FL while my address is VT. Also, I do not do electronic returns or use a tax preparer. THANKS!!!

    • Whether there will be a third payment and the procedure for claiming it hasn’t been set yet. Since Congress makes laws, they could technically still put it on 2020 but it could also be for 2021 instead.

income was $ 76,000 in 2019.Single. How come I never received my stimulus payment?

    • You can check the status of your payment using the IRS Get My Payment tool. If you were eligible for a payment and did not receive it, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return.

  19. Are status for the January payment states it’s unavailable. We easily qualify, will we receive a 1444 if they don’t issue a payment. If not, how to we file a credit on our 2020 taxes

  20. When are the 1444 notices being mailed? So far I have not received one.

  21. I have not recieved payment or 1444b document. I have the same bank account as always and qualify to receive it. Irs.gov gives me an error message when I try to track my payment stating that my information does not match their records. Can I just file taxes without the 1444 document and still receive my stimulous check with it?

  22. If there was a child born in 2020, is that dependant entitled to $600 economic impact payment? How is it collected?

  23. My son received the first stimulus check of $1200. He did not receive the second stimulus of $600. He has already efiled his 2020 taxes. On there is put that he received $1200 for the first one.
There was nothing that said how to claim the second one of $600.
Since he did his own taxes and they have been filed already, how can he claim the second one of $600?

  24. Why are people who filed 2019 taxes with H&R Block having trouble getting their stimulus money?

    • The only thing I’ve heard of is people who paid H&R Block out of their refund not getting their money because the bank account H&R Block used to received the refund had already been closed.

  25. I filed my tax via the H&R Online tool via direct deposit for the year 2019 and before, but I did not receive any stimulus payment nor the IRS Notice 1444. I know I am eligible. IRS web site status check says: We are still procession or you are ineligible.
    Questions:
1- Would I be able to request those stimulus payments while I am filling 2020?
2- Do I have to have the IRS Notice 1444? Since I did not get those either.

    Thanks

I am on Social Security and received the first Stimulus check. However I did not receive the 1444 notice or the second Stimulus check ( status not available) In order to file for the second one, I need the 1444 form, you mentioned in another post to call the IRS..could you provide the number?

    • Call the main number on the IRS website. I don’t post the numbers or links because you should always verify contact information directly with the IRS instead of trusting other sources (that may be a scammer).

  27. Hello I have a comment o=about the stimulations,us check. M y Office has been receiving enormous amount of calls regarding US citizens abroad that haven’t received their stimulus check. They have made the inquirers before 11/28/2020 and they have not received their check. These folks are non filers living abroad. What information can I provide to these Citizens who did not receive their stimulus and how can they apply for it now. It doesn’t give much information about the non filers on the IRS web site. Is there any special instructions on how to pursue this.
    Thank you
    Peter

    • The question would be if the IRS Get My Payment tool says whether they were issued a payment or not. If the payment was issued and not received, they can follow the IRS FAQ @ https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment-frequently-asked-questions#missing. If the payment was not issued, they can claim eligibility on their 2020 tax return. Even if they don’t normally file, the stimulus check is a Recovery Rebate Credit against the 2020 tax return. If they had no taxable income or other liabilities, the result of their return would be a refund for the stimulus amount they’re eligible for.

If they are having difficulty with whether or not they are actually eligible, I haven’t seen any good solutions to any aspect of this except Congressional offices stepping in.

      • I did not receive stimulus check second payment because they put in wrong account I get social security checks thru account however that put in wrong account. Got my first check no problem How do I change wrong banking account number and routing number. I really need to get direct deposit so will help

        • This is from the IRS FAQ. It is a possible answer but not the only answer. Only the IRS can tell you for sure.

Some recipients may have had their payment directed to the temporary bank account established when their 2019 tax return was filed. The IRS and tax industry partners are taking steps to redirect stimulus payments to the correct account for those affected. The IRS anticipates many additional taxpayers will receive payments following this effort.

If you receive SSA, RRB, SSI or VA benefits via Direct Express:

If your benefits are currently deposited to a Direct Express card, your Economic Impact Payments will also be deposited to that card. The bank information shown in Get My Payment will be a number associated with your Direct Express card and may be a number you don’t recognize.

  28. We received the first stimulus check for $1,200 last year. We did file an IRS 2018 1040 Form. However, we did not file a 2019 tax return because the accountant said we were only getting Social Security and since the banking info is the same, we would receive the second stimulus check due to the 2018 tax return, automatically, and did not have to file IRS tax returns in the future our earnings are non-taxable. This has not happened. We are still waiting for the ($600.00), actually $1,200.00 of the second stimulus. The IRS Get My Payment tool states Payment #2 Status – Not Available.

    • There’s a good chance that you will need to file a 2020 return to claim your second payment, but you should check with the accountant familiar with your situation.

  29. Do you know how I get a copy of the Notice 1444 which was sent out after the first Stimulus Check? I am certain I shredded it and didn’t realize until this morning that I will need it for filing taxes.
    Thank you for any help!!

  30. my son got the 1st stimulus check but they took it all for child support, on his taxes it says did you receive the stimulus, he did but as i said uit was taken, does he need to add that amount to his taxes even tho he didnt get that money?

  31. According to the GMP site: If GMP shows “Payment Status #2 – Not Available,” then you will not receive a second Economic Impact Payment and instead you need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 Tax Return.

If I file my 2020 return and owe no taxes, but claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, will IRS payout the second Economic Impact Payment – or is this only a credit against any owed taxes?

  32. My husband and I always file joint
    We did not file 2019
We are both on SOC sec
He received a $600 check in Jan 2021
I did not..says status not available
We received last stimulus electronic of $1200 without issue

    • I just went ahead and filed tax return even though I don’t have too. In my research I saw there were multiple offices that sent out the stimulus. 8 million of us must have been handled by an office that decided to just make us wait! (just my speculation). Our info was supposed to be automatically provided by SSA so maybe that is where the problem occurred. I did the IRS.gov free file link. Waiting to see if it will be accepted. It always happened quickly in the past but with all the turmoil who knows when the return will be accepted.
Sorry to hear you are in the same problem I am.

      • Tax season was delayed until today. So no returns were accepted before today except for a small number that the IRS takes from certain software providers early to make sure everything is working correctly.

  33. MY wife’s and my last Tax Return filed was from 2018.

We only got Social Security and had no other income or assets for 2019. Our accountant gave me back the 2019 Tax Return and said it was not required.

We get the first Stimulus Check of $1,200 each directly deposited.

We are using the same bank and checking account.

How di I get this resolved as the money is quite necessary?

What happens when the additional stimulus check is issued? That’s an additional $1,400.00 each.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thx.

    Ed.

  34. My wife and I filed a 2018 tax return and we each got the $1200.00 stimulus refund directly deposited to our checking account.

Our 2019 tax return was given back to us by our accountant since are both only on Social Security, therefore, no 2019 tax return was filed.

We use the same bank checking account as was indicated on the 2018 return.

I was checking online and we are now Payment #2 Status.

Also, to further compound matters, we moved in early 2020, however, since the accountant said we were only receiving Social Security, we did not have to file for 2019.

I can see this getting further screwed up when the third stimulus check is to be issued for ($1,400.00) each.

What do we do to get the complete $2,000.00 stimulus money for each of us.

    Thank you,

    Ed Tadych

  35. will the IRS have a form 1444 retrieval tool to find out the amount of individual EIP?

  36. I got the first payment as direct deposit to my bank account
Now I have moved to a new address but my bank and bank account is the same.
Will I get the second payment direct deposited to my bank account?
Which address do I enter on the Get My Payment tool?

Is there a way to get another copy of my Notice 1444 letter? I can’t find mine and I didn’t receive the right amount for the first and second round of stimulus payments.

My wife and I have paid our taxes every year through 2019 and will file for 2020. We never received the first stimulus check, so we believe we won’t receive the second. We do qualify for the first stimulus & second! IRS says do not call, so how in the world are we suppose to communicate?? The IRS says, no worries just make claim on your 2020 tax return. Do I need anything (other irs forms/anything) to be sent with 2020 tax return? We never received the IRS Notice 1444-A (we never received a payment). I think my head is going to explode trying to figure this out by calling or at IRS.gov! Do all the 2020 tax return forms and Turbo tax have sections specifically for the stimulus payments (received/didn’t receive) in order to receive the credit? We need someone’s help; we would be most grateful!

    • Hello Mark W Rogers,
My name is Linda. I’m no expert, but may be able to help. I’m just an everyday, ordinary 64 year old “senior” who has done her own very simple taxes for the last several years via FreeTaxUSA.com – I used to use TurboTax until I realized they were ripping people off. FreeTaxUSA is an IRS recommended/approved free site (the IRS site is actually where I first learned about it.) There are a couple of services you are offered before you choose how you wish to file, but if you only wish to efile a Federal return without requiring a printed copy, their service really and truly is free. I don’t know how complicated your tax situation may be, but it’s possibly worth your time to check it out.

FYI, I did receive the first check, but I’m pretty certain I won’t receive the second one due to the fact that I have moved and had to change bank accounts since receiving the first one in March/April 2020. I have been tinkering on the FreeTaxUSA site today (January 7, 2021) and they have, in fact, already implemented the questions regarding whether or not you ever received the first and/or second checks and whether or not you qualify to receive either. I highly recommend checking it out.

I hope I’ve been just a little bit of help.
      Best regards,
      Linda G

  40. I have received my payment in Direct deposit for me & wife and not my daughter. I also received notice 1444 but i lost it now. Anyway I can request for my daughter during 2021 tax return? Anyway I request for new notice 1444 ?

  41. Hi, I got the payment but not the full $1,2000, but I did not get the NOTICE 1444. How can I request it ? Didn’t see it when I logged into my IRS account.

    • You can try calling the IRS. Make sure you also save the proof of payment amount whether that’s the bank statement that has your direct deposit or the letter you got with your check/debit card.

  42. My ex-spouse and I divorced January 2020. The IRS withheld $600 for child support I owed her. They sent the entire payment directly to her. We qualified for the $2,400 plus one child $500. She gave me $600 cash and had me sign the check over to her (it was for $2,300.00). She did not give me a copy of the Notice 1444. We both claimed the child on our 2019 return which we had to file jointly as we were still married 12/31/2019. My question – she remarried in 2020 and will file a joint return with new husband and claims our child as a dependent for 2020. How will I claim my share of the stimulus payment on my 2020 return which will be filed as single – the IRS will not know who got what of the check sent.

  43. So yes I got my payment and the 1444 notice. at the time there was nothing said whether to keep it . now my Tax accountant sent me a letter saying that when I do my taxes they want that letter that it could get me more tax credits? Now I can’t find it? looked everywhere… I may have shredded it, there was nothing on it to say keep it? since I got stimulus money.
So now what do I do? is there a way to get a copy of one that was addressed to me ? I can’t find anything on the IRS website on what to do if you lost the letter and how to get a copy?

    Thank you

  44. I have a friend who has not had any income for several years. They are 35 and a U.S. citizen and live with their family. Someone told them that they think that they may be eligible for the first stimulus payment and now for the second stimulus payment. Does that sound correct and if so how do they go about applying for these stimulus checks ? Thank you

  45. I received form 1444 on September 22, 2020. Te letter was dated July 31, 2020. It said I was to reeive a check or ebit card, but they have my diret deposit info from my Soc. Sec. payments. Are tehy crrazy or just unfamiliar with Mexico’s mail service service – also kown as fraud, stop and rob. If after 2 months since issuance of the form I hv}ave not received anything from “Donald Trump”, how can I report the theft and request a direct deposit? As of 1 week ago, October 20, I had not received anything. Due to COVID19 I do not go into Guadalarjara everyday to chec my bank balance

  46. I RECEIVED A 1444-A NOTICE ON 24 SEPT. 2020 BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY PAYMENT AS OF 3 OCTOBER 2020. WHAT CAN I DO TO RECEIVE THE STIMULUS PAYMENT. EVERYBODY ELSE HAS RECEIVED THE PAYMENT AND I ONLY HAVE THIS THE LETTER WITH NO CHECK ENCLOSED. ROSE M COLE

We received a Notice# 1444(EN-SP). Saying we are receiving an Economic Impact Payment of $2,400.00. We did not get such check. To this day, my husband as past away(01/27/2020) and I am on Social Security. Still have not received the stimulus check/ debit card. What do I do? I tried calling the number on the Notice# 1444. I just keep getting disconnected or told they dont have that information. My husband was a Veteran and just got approved for Soc. Security before he past. If we were to receive this check who do I contact.
    Thank you,
    Ms Concern

My husband has been on State disability insurance, so we do not get a w-2 to file taxes. He has been on this since 06/01/2014. we have not filed taxes since. We did not apply for stimulus, we do not want to mess with his disability payments. Why would we get a letter?

    • I’m not sure what letter you mean, but the stimulus payments were supposed to be for everyone except those who earned too much money to qualify. You can double check with your state disability insurance office to make sure it won’t affect those benefits.

I received the stimulus payment via direct deposit but either did not receive or thew away the IRS Notice 1444 and would like to know if there is a way to get a replacement copy for my records.

  50. Every time I go on get my payment, it says it doesn’t have enough information. It says my SS # is wrong.

    • From the IRS: “If you are unable to verify your identity, you will not be able to use Get My Payment. No action is needed to contact the IRS.”

Some people have had luck calling their Congressman’s office.

I received my economic impact payment on April 15, 2020 based on my 2018 federal income tax return. This return showed that I earned an income well above $150000 (due to an extraordinary payout for an annuity in my IRA that I redeemed early for needed cash). Based on this information IRS reduced my economic impact payment to $450 rather than the $2400 that I would have received if my income were less than $150000. Here is my question, “My 2019 fed income tax return, which had been received by IRS but not processed at the time the impact payment was sent out, shows that my income was below $150000 and would seem to qualify me for the full $2400 payment if used. How do you see this? Should I be entitled to an adjustment? And if you concur, how might I proceed to obtain this adjustment?

  53. RECEIVED NOTICE #1444 AS OF MAY 22 2020 HAVE NOT RECEIVD ANY PAYMENT WHERE IS MINE

  54. Question if I did an extension beyond July 15th cut off date for my 2019 taxes will I still qualify for the Stimulus payment.

  55. Received ltr but not payment Who do I call ?

  56. How would a person get a duplicate copy of the Notice 1444 (EN-SP) letter?

Did not receive payment or further instructions???? just a phone number and email address to information I already have????

  58. There is no assistance for anyone who did not receive the notice nor any phone numbers to contact the alleged new phone representatives for the IRS if you have any questions about the stimulus check. I have NOT received a payment and my payment status remains unavailable, although I filed my 2018 taxes and am due a stimulus payment according to the guidelines. In addition, my son, who has NO income and is 27 and filed a 2018 tax return with an income of 1,800 (not a dependent) has received nothing and his information on the IRS website is all messed up. No one seems to have an answer-yet everyone around us has received the money. It is extremely frustrating.

    • Call the main number on the IRS website and you will get routed eventually. Unless they’re too busy or no one is working. You can also file a complaint with your local congressman.

what if you paid in 2018..

    • You can now go to the IRS website and they have a tool to look up the status of your payment and if you need to do something to get it.

it seems that you will get the check with no problems if you got a refund for 2018 or 2019 taxes. I owed $107 and paid it through my 2018 return. what do I have to do to get the payment since I did not get a refund?

  60. Sonia Hernandez | April 1, 2020 at 7:50 pm | Reply

My spouse and I filed together. He has to pay so we are not receiving a refund. Do we still get the stimulus benefit?

  61. If I have filed our joint 2019 taxes, will the payout be based on our 2019 or 2018?

  62. I filed my 2018 taxes. Used direct deposit to my at the time girlfriend and I’s shared account. We are broken up and not on good terms. I cannot speak to anyone at the IRS to update my new address. I haven’t had a chance to file my 2019 return yet either.

I just know this money will drop inter her account and I won’t be able to recover it. Dang it! How to do I change my address and/or direct deposit info at this point?

  63. Will this definitely be based on 2018 income? I am hearing it will be based on 2019, but i don’t see how…

  64. What if you didn’t file a 2018 tax return because you didn’t have enough income and wouldn’t owe any taxes.

    • CNBC is reporting everyone will get a check – most likely for $600 with no income taxes. I’ve also seen reports they may look at 2019 tax returns for people who already filed. Still no published bill yet, and still a chance that could get voted down, so nothing is final.
